Marcella Thompson , Controller

Marcella Thompson joined IPM as the Controller, bringing with her over twenty-seven years of strong accounting and customer service related experience.

Marcella’s background includes managing the Client Accounting Group at one of the largest CPA firm’s in the Southeast and being the Comptroller of the largest nursing home in the state of Alabama.  She has held accounting positions within healthcare, wholesale distributing, manufacturing and retail.  Her experience has allowed her to blend two passions - accounting and providing excellent customer service.  At IPM, she continues enjoying both.
Marcella graduated summa cum laude (B.S.B.A - Accounting Major) from Auburn University at Montgomery and was AUM’s 1997 recipient of the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants Accounting Achievement Award for excellence in character, personality, leadership and academic achievement.  While at AUM, Marcella acquired membership into the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Society; the Delta Epsilon Kappa Accounting Honor Society; and the Beta Gamma Sigma National Business Honor Society.

Marcella has earned both the Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) and the Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) credentials offered through the American Payroll Association.  Both provided knowledge in all aspects of payroll and employee related reporting, particularly in the legislative and regulatory environments.  Marcella has managed annual Payroll Tax Update seminars in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce and updated many sections of the guide participants received.  Due to her expertise, she has taught several training classes for accountants covering a wide range of subjects.

Marcella was an active member of the Alabama Society of Public Accountants and the Institute of Management Accounts, where she recently served on the board as vice president of professional education.  She is also active in the American Lung Association and the Humane Society. 
Marcella was born and raised in the mountains of North Georgia (her father is from Shelton Laurel, North Carolina) and she is truly excited that marriage has brought her back to the mountains she loves so well.
